It’s called Legos & Lagers and it is a Lego building competition being held on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at the Toad & Turtle Barlow.
We were looking for fun new things to do for our friends in Calgary that could also get some support and we came up with a night where we could all get together and build Legos roadsters and zip them down a ramp and across the room. This will be great for anyone into Lego or not into Lego. It’s a great venue, for a good cause, and there are prizes!
We are circling something big for the grand prize, so stay tuned for that.
Be a Kid Again, Come Play with Lego
Essentially, what Legos & Lagers is all about is to help us pay to train some volunteers in ASIST and Mental Health First Aid. ASIST training is Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training and it is very important for people who may end up engaging with someone who might be suicidal. Mental Health First Aid is important because it helps a person aid someone else who may be suffering from a mental illness related episode. The Selfling App is fine and good but it does need to be safe and we have discovered that training volunteers to see what is happening on the app – and being trained to handle some content they might discover – is the best way to do that.
At the Legos & Lagers event, up to 25 pairs of 2 will have around an hour and a half to build a Lego roadster that will then be judged on its design. After the judging, all roadsters will take a zip down the Selfling Speed Ramp to see who travels the farthest. Points are tallied up from the judging and from the distance. The team with the highest combined score wins our grand prize!
We will also have door prizes available and all of those will start to pop up here and on the Selfling Facebook page.
